SAMHSA releases updated resources on MAT

Ann Tucker

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released an updated Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) regarding the use of the three Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved medications used to treat opioid use disorder (OUD).

The resource includes an introduction to medication-assisted treatment (MAT), chapters for healthcare professionals on addressing OUD in medical settings and pharmacotherapy, and a chapter on partnering addiction treatment counselors with clients and healthcare professionals. The final chapter includes resources related to MAT for healthcare and addiction professionals, policymakers, patients, and families.
