Sackler Family Risks Litigation After Supreme Court Rejects Purdue Pharma Settlement

Forbes [7/09]  -  Purdue Pharma went back to court this week after the Supreme Court thwarted the OxyContin maker’s multibillion-dollar bankruptcy settlement, which would have shielded members of the Sackler family from civil liability for their role in the opioid crisis—and the billionaire family stands to face fresh litigation if the parties can’t figure out a new settlement.


The Supreme Court recently rejected Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy settlement with the thousands of individuals, states and other entities who sued the company and some of the Sacklers for their role in perpetuating the opioid epidemic, striking down a provision in the deal that would have allowed the Sacklers to pay $6 billion in exchange for not facing any more civil lawsuits going forward. CONT
